Fresh Leadership for BEWDA Gyel District After Successful Polls

The Berom Women Development Association (BEWDA), Gyel District, has ushered in a new leadership team following the successful conduct of its district elections. The polls, held in an atmosphere of peace and unity, brought together members who expressed their commitment to strengthening women’s voices in the community.

At the end of the election, Mary Peter emerged as the new Chairperson, while Jummai Monday was elected Deputy Chairperson. Both leaders are expected to provide direction and strengthen the association’s role in fostering women’s development within the district.

Other key positions were also filled, with Sarah Kandi elected as Secretary and Helen Joshua as Assistant Secretary. Their election is seen as crucial to maintaining the administrative backbone of the association.

In charge of finance, Regina Gyang Sambo will serve as Treasurer, and Simi Stephen as Financial Secretary. Members expressed optimism that their stewardship will ensure transparency and accountability in managing the association’s resources.

To boost communication and advocacy, the association also elected three Public Relations Officers: Eunice Botrus (PRO I), Ruth Jonathan (PRO II), and Paulina Dauda Kangyang (PRO III). They will be responsible for projecting the activities of BEWDA Gyel District and engaging stakeholders.

The exercise was described by observers as free, fair, and well-organized, reflecting BEWDA’s strong democratic culture and its commitment to inclusivity in leadership.

The new executives are now tasked with driving initiatives that promote empowerment, unity, and welfare, while aligning with BEWDA’s broader vision of advancing women’s roles in society and sustaining Berom cultural identity.
