The Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs Josephine Piyo, has expressed the government’s commitment to sponsoring more citizens of the state to attend aviation schools and pursue careers as pilots, aircraft engineers, and other related professions.
She made these remarks while receiving the Association of Plateau Aviators on behalf of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Piyo emphasized that training local talent in the aviation sector would not only contribute to the nation’s economy but also to the development of the state.
“We are very proud to be receiving you back home today, this is a very noble profession you have chosen, not so many people tow this line of profession, we are proud to have our sons and daughters as pilots and aircraft engineers”
“The governor is very passionate about the aviation sector as he knows the importance and impact it has on the economy and development of the state, that is why we made arrangements and brought in Value Jet Airline in order to boost economic activities and uplift the transport sector.
“We will be more than happy to sponsor more sons and daughters to pursue a career in the aviation sector, to become pilots, engineers and cabin crew members as we have plans on ground to bring more airlines and revamp the airport to international standards.
Captain Innocent Samuel, the leader of the delegation, thanked the Plateau State Government for sponsoring its citizens to study in aviation schools and highlighted the state’s high number of sponsored students in the country.
He said the development of any country and state is measured by the state of its airport, as it is the first point of entrance for any visitor.
He urged the government to continue sponsoring more citizens to increase the number of pilots from Plateau State and emphasized the importance of upgrading the Yakubu Gowon Airport to attract international investors, boost economic activities, and attract more tourists.
