Afizere Nation, UniJos Community mourn demise of Prof. Izam

The Afizere Nation, the University of Jos Community and the family of late Professor Yohanna D. M. Izam, has continued to mourn the untimely passing of the erudite academic who passed away on Monday, 19th January, 2026, at the age of 59.

In a condolence message signed by the Publicity and Protocol Subcommittee on behalf of the family, stated that the death of the distinguished lecturer who at one time was the Provost of CAST, Kurgwi, Commissioner for Housing and Transport in Plateau State, President of the Nigerian Institute of Building, and Vice-Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, will be a big vacuum to fill.

“With total submission to the will of Almighty God, the family of Professor Yohanna D. M. Izam, the Afizere Nation, the University of Jos community, and the Plateau State Government announce the sudden transition to glory of our beloved husband, father, son, mentor, and icon. He passed away on Monday, 19th January 2026, at the age of 59,” the statement said.

“Professor Yohanna D. M. Izam was a distinguished academic and public servant. He served as a University Lecturer, Provost of CAST Kurgwi, Commissioner for Housing and Transport in Plateau State, President of the Nigerian Institute of Building, and Vice-Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos.

“He was also a devoted youth and community mobiliser and a pillar of hope to the Afizere people, Plateau State, and the nation at large.”

Announcing the programs that will culminate in the final internment of Prof. Izam, the statement said:

“A Service of Songs will hold on Monday, 2nd February 2026, at ECWA Plateau Church, Jos, by 4:00 pm.

“On Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, his remains will depart the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Permanent Site Mortuary by 8:00 am for the funeral service at ECWA Plateau Church, Jos. Thereafter, the body will proceed to Tere, Fursum District, Jos East Local Government Area, for final interment.

“He is survived by his wife, children, parents, and members of his immediate and extended family. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace with the Lord.”
