BYM demand proscription of Miyetti Allah, arrest, prosecution of leaders over deadly attacks in Plateau

The group recalled that the coordinated attacks that occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, claimed the lives of several persons, including Pius Luka Dida, Markus Danladi, Peter, and Acham Ayuba.

The Berom Youth Moulder-Association (BYM) has called on the federal government to proscribe the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) over recent coordinated attacks on the Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area and Gero in Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The BYM which made the demand in a statement jointly signed on Monday by its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, and National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, also called for the arrest and prosecution of the leaders of MACBAN in the state over what he described as “acts of sustained terror against indigenous communities.”

The group recalled that the coordinated attacks that occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, claimed the lives of several persons, including Pius Luka Dida, Markus Danladi, Peter, and Acham Ayuba.

It further described the killings as “a grim reminder of the sustained and systematic terror being unleashed on indigenous communities of Plateau State.” It accused MACBAN of complicity in the violence while faulting the herders group’s assertion that the violence was caused by “Berom terrorists” who allegedly attacked Fulani persons in the affected communities.

BYM added that the attacks also resulted in widespread economic losses, with armed herders allegedly destroying dry-season farmlands in the Kwi community.

“The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), hereby call on the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, proscribe the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and designate them a terrorist group,” the statement reads in part.

BYM also urges security agencies and international bodies to arrest, investigate, and prosecute the leaders of Miyetti Allah in Plateau State, especially its Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, for always justifying attacks by Fulani militias in our communities.

“The attacks have also led to significant economic losses, with armed herders destroying dry-season farmlands in Kwi, inflicting losses of over ₦14 million on local farmers,” the statement said.

The BYM further demanded immediate compensation for the families of those killed and affected farmers, as well as the deployment of adequate security personnel to protect vulnerable communities across the state.
