Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf fired his Commissioner of Lands and Physical Planning, Adamu Kibiya, and his Special Adviser on Youth Development, Aliyu Yusuf-Imma, on Friday.
In a viral video, the two officials slammed Vice President Kashim Shettima and threatened to kill state governorship election petition tribunal judges if Yusuf’s election was overturned.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu-Dantiye, the governor has distanced himself from the “unguarded utterances.”
At a news conference in Kano, the commissioner said that the governor had fired the two employees with immediate effect.
“The Kano State Government respects Vice President Kashim Shettima and the judiciary; no government official should speak on any issue outside his or her ministry or agency,” Halilu-Dantiye added.
He asked the citizens of the state to obey the law and respect the rule of law.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the dismissed employees made the threats on Thursday, following a special prayer by governor supporters for the tribunal judgement to go in their favour.
The viral video sparked outrage across the country, with some calling for the duo’s arrest and prosecution.
