Troops arrest suspected gunrunner, recover weapons in Plateau

Security sources who confirmed the arrest of the suspect identified as Stephen Gyang, was arrested on Sunday night along the Kafi-Rakwok road during a stop and search operation.

Troops of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a which is saddled with the responsibility of weeding out insurgents and restoring peace in Plateau State, have arrested a suspected gunrunner in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Security sources who confirmed the arrest of the suspect identified as Stephen Gyang, was arrested on Sunday night along the Kafi-Rakwok road during a stop and search operation.

According to the security sources, weapons including one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, were recovered from the 40 years old suspect.

Security sources who also confirmed the arrest, said the troops who were acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspect while he was on his way to deliver the arms and ammunition to terrorists.

The suspect who hails from Kafi Abu village in Barkin Ladi LGA, is currently in the custody of troops for further investigation and necessary action.
