Troops in Plateau State apprehend a suspected gunrunner and recover a cache of weapons, enhancing security efforts in the region.
The Nigerian Army’s Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) has arrested five individuals, including a suspected gunrunner, during operations in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to military sources, troops from Sector 6, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted 48-year-old Stephen Maisaje Gyang on the evening of November 17, 2024, at a stop-and-search checkpoint in Kwanan Fulani.
A search of his belongings uncovered a fabricated rifle, an AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of ammunition, a knife, and a motorcycle.
Preliminary investigations suggest Gyang was transporting the weapons to Farin Lamba, also in Jos South. Security forces are now working to track down his accomplices.
