A young football talent from Plateau State, Paul Julius Goewam, tragically lost his life in a car crash in Cyprus on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on the Paralimni-Protaras road near Pernera when Julius’s vehicle collided head-on with another car.
Julius, a 20-year-old striker, had recently joined the Cypriot football club Enosis Neon Paralimni just three weeks ago, following a stint with the Egyptian team El Gaish.
His promising career was cut short, leaving the football community in shock.
In a heartfelt statement, Enosis Neon Paralimni FC expressed their profound sorrow at the sudden loss of their player.
The club praised Julius for his resilience and determination, saying, “Despite the hardships and sufferings he faced to join our family, he remained steadfast and determined to fulfill his goals.
His memory will live on in our hearts, and his absence will be felt. We are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”
The 74-year-old driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision is currently receiving treatment in the hospital but is not in critical condition.
Cypriot authorities are investigating the accident, with the Famagusta Traffic Department urging any witnesses to come forward with information.
