Three residents killed by armed herdsmen in fresh attacks in Riyom villages

Three residents of Jol and Byei villages in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State were killed in fresh attacks by armed herdsmen on Wednesday night, according to reports.

According to a youth leader in one of the affected communities, the herdsmen invaded the villages after residents had retired for the night and fired sporadically, killing the three victims and injuring several others.

The youth leader said calls made to security agencies to come to their rescue were futile as the forces stationed in a nearby location yielded no fruit.

“When the heavily armed herdsmen attacked Jol and Byei villages, we sent distress calls to security agencies stationed not far from the communities but they refused to come to our rescue.

“Two people were killed instantly by the gunmen. They are Elisha Dalyop and Abednego Davou. We also discovered the corpse of another young man while another victim, Patrick Joshua, was injured and is receiving treatment in Vom Christian Hospital,” he said.
