The significance of Berom dominant colours (Red and Grern)

The Berom tribe in Plateau State is one that come with unique features like the two colours of the Berom (Red And Green) selected on two basis.

1. Green::: this colour is of immense significance because of the military/Defence nature of the Berom people. One of our major security apparatus or element of Defence in the past was the cactus (Yèp)🌵🌵 this plant was used as fence for almost all our communities in the past. Arrows and the white mans bullets had difficulty penetrating these plants and as such provided heavy security for the Berom people therefore the symbolic green colour is obtained from the colour of the plant cactus (Yèp) 🌵

2. Red::: obtained strategically from an underground stone called “Tí” in Berom language. This stone is very significant to the Berom people. Before any defence or attack situation, the warriors (SUGA) will paint their faces with this particular stone which is obtained on certain locations.

This stone is red in colour and is painted on the face. This will boost the confidence of the warriors (SUGA) and is believed to weakened the enemies when in contact.

In addition the power in Ti cures alot of ailments. It is believed it has power of invisibility on our warriors (SUGA).

This material Is obtained in particular Locations of the Berom communities, these locations are also kept sacred.

Note: the original material used is not found everywhere underneath but in specific locations.
