Simon Lalong, labour minister, on follow-up visits to address labour demands

The implementation of organised labor’s demands was closely monitored on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, as Minister of Labour and Employment Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, CON, and Minister of State Hon. Nkeiruka Onyeajeocha worked to prevent a strike.

They visited the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters to speak with the acting IGP’s envoy about the occupation of the NURTW Secretariat and the detention of several union leaders.

Following their meeting with Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, they went to the Presidential mansion to brief Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Simon Bako Lalong, the minister of labour and employment, told journalists after his meeting with the vice president that the government was making every effort to accommodate labour concerns.

According to him, so far, negotiations have been cordial and productive, with both parties demonstrating understanding and agreeing to cooperate to foster industrial harmony.

Other information from the discussions held behind closed doors was kept quiet.
