Gunmen are said to have assaulted two villages in Plateau State, killing seven people.
The victims were claimed to have died in the early hours of Thursday after being attacked by attackers in the towns of Pukah and Pinper in the state’s Mangu Local Government Area.
While six men and a woman were killed in the Pukah hamlet, the gunmen stole sheep and other domestic animals in the Pinper settlement.
On Thursday, a member of Pukah village, John Mark, confirmed the deaths to Plateau Watch in Jos.
Mark said, “The Pukah community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State came under heavy attack by gunmen early this morning (Thursday). They also attacked another community in the council area known as Pinper.
“In Pukah community, they killed one lady and six men. But in Pinper, they carted away several numbers of sheep before they fled the communities. ”
Mark, who condemned the act, stated that it had been reported to security personnel.
When reached, Captain Oya James, spokesman for the Military Taskforce in charge of preserving peace in the state, said he would get back to our correspondent about the attack but had yet to do so at the time of reporting this story.
According to Plateau Watch, seven people were killed by gunmen in Mangu village just hours after the state government trained 600 people for the state-owned security agency known as Operation Rainbow.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support to state-owned security outfits during their passing out parade in Jos on Wednesday, stated that the revitalization of the outfit was timely, coming at a time when the state needed consolidation on the gains of tackling security challenges that had ravaged the state for years.
He warned the operatives that his government would not tolerate indiscipline or unprofessional behavior and charged them with contributing their fair share to efforts to protect residents’ lives and property.
