Senator Diket Plang, who represents Plateau Central in Plateau State, has given 4,500 constituent members the authority to ease hardships brought on by the loss of gasoline subsidies.
The exercise, which involved the disbursement of funds and trainings, was intended to cover the five local governments within the senatorial zone, the senator, who also serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, told reporters at the program’s launch in the state’s Mangu local government area.
He claimed that the programme was designed to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiatives to lessen people’s suffering, particularly those who had been affected by the recent crises in his district.
“President Tinubu intends good for the country; what we are going through is a result of his administration’s efforts to restructure and reposition the economy. Without eliminating the support, the economy could further decline to pitiful proportions.
Therefore, he continued, “This empowerment programme is specifically created to serve the weak women, children, and seniors in this trying time.
He urged the elderly to keep praying for Nigeria, especially those in positions of leadership, saying that the country needs their prayers to overcome the difficulties it is currently facing.
Earlier, while in the state’s Kanam local government area, the senator paid Alhaji Muhammadu Mu’azu Muhammadu ll a courtesy visit.
He asked the residents of his district to constantly cooperate with security forces and alert the proper authorities to any threat to the peace.
In his response, the emir thanked the senator for his quick action in developing a programme for women’s empowerment.
He advised the senator to focus heavily on youth empowerment in the region, saying it would go a long way towards relieving the suffering of the targeted beneficiaries.
