The violent dispute between members of the Montol and Taroh tribes that took place in the Ponglong area of the Lalin District of the Mikang Local Government Area has been denounced by Senator Simon Bako Lalong, who represents the Plateau South Senatorial District. There have been reports of violence between the two neighbours over a land dispute, which has resulted in injuries, property destruction, and animal rustling.
Senator Lalong expressed his sympathy to the victims of the violence, calling for a comprehensive investigation to identify the root causes of the conflict and characterising the horrible incident as regrettable.
In a statement released by Dr. Makut Simon Macham, Special Adviser (Media) to Senator Simon Bako Lalong contains that the former governor admonished the citizens to give peace a chance and adopt dialogue to settle whatever differences that might occur rather than resort to violence which does no good to all parties.
The Senator called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to get to the root of the matter by ensuring that total calm returns to the area while those who masterminded the violence are brought to justice.
He said as the Senator representing the area, he will closely monitor the situation to see that such ugly incident does not occur again while those who suffered injuries and losses are not left alone.
