A bride-to-be has caused a stir after she absconded on her wedding day because she did not like the church the wedding was to take place.
The incident which has become the talk of the town, happened in Jos, the Plateau State capital, when the bride identified as Patience John Adora, was supposed to be joined in holy matrimony to the groom, Yakubu Azi Abok, at the COCIN RCC, Anguldi, on Saturday, April 5.
But the much talked about wedding was not to be as Patience allegedly decided to pull a plug by running away because she did not like the fact her husband-to-be was a member of the COCIN faith even after they had dated for three years and had undergone all pre-marriage rites and counseling conducted by the church before fixing the date for the wedding to take place.
According to reports, Patience developed cold feet a night before the wedding and decided to abscond to an unknown destination even when friends and family members had all converged in town for the wedding.
As the topic has continued to generate debates on social media, some concerned people believe there could be another reason why Patience decided to back out of the wedding aside the church controversy.
Some are of the belief that the husband-to-be could have a violent streak which she may not be able to cope with in the future, while others believe there could have been an unresolved issue that made her to back out.
This is the third of such cases of a wedding cancellation in Plateau in the last two years.
One of such incidents happened on May 4, 2024, in Farin Lamba area of Vom, when a bride-to-be, Florence Friday, abruptly cancelled her wedding to Morgak James, due to disagreement on where they would live when they got married.
In the incident which became the hottest topic at the time and left both families bewildered, tensions arose when Florence reportedly requested funds from Morgak to reserve her wedding gown, sparking a financial dispute that escalated into a living arrangement disagreement.
It was gathered that Florence’s demand for immediate payment and insistence on Morgak finding a separate accommodation away from his parents’ house caused a strain in their relationship.
“Despite Morgak’s efforts to meet her demands, including securing the gown deposit and agreeing to a compromise on post-wedding living arrangements, Florence ultimately called off the wedding, citing dissatisfaction with Morgak’s family home situation,” the story had gone.
In another incident that left many flabbergasted, a groom had also chickened out of his wedding at the last minute because his bride-to-be had been caught sleeping with her ex-boyfriend a few days to their wedding which was to hold on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Ganawuri, Riyom Local Government Area.
In the incident, the groom who got to know of his bride’s action days before the wedding, reportedly played along with the wedding plans and even attended her send-forth party only to back out on the wedding day.
His family only informed the bride’s family of the decision just as she was about to start getting set for the big day which led to her mental breakdown and she had to be flown out of the state to get mental treatment.
