The Transition Committee Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Sati Shuwa has charged residents of Riyom Local Government to always maintain a clean environment for healthy living.
The Council Chairman gave the charge while monitoring the month of August environmental sanitation exercise in Riyom.
The Transition Committee Chairman who was joined in the exercise by the Directors of the Council, Sanitary inspectors of the Local Government, and Security agencies in the area, frowned at the low level of compliance by the residents as well as the high movement of commercial motorcyclists and shop owners during the sanitation exercise.
Sati Shuwa advised people in the Local Government to always observe the government’s directives on monthly sanitation, as it is not a punishment but to help maintain a clean environment for healthy living.
The visit took the Chairman to Ra-Hoss and Sambak communities where the Council Chairman told the residents to always ensure that wastes generated in the various houses, shops, and markets were properly disposed of, as against dumping them in drainage channels.
The Chairman said the return of the monthly environmental sanitation would go a long way in improving the health and standard of living of the people, explaining that the Governor’s determination to keep the state clean and healthy re-introduced the monthly sanitation across the state.
The Chairman noted that the issue of environmental sanitation is no longer going to be business as usual as the present administration in the Local Government would embark on an aggressive campaign against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and sewage in canals and around residential areas.
Shuwa called on the people of the Local Government Area to continue to give support to the present administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to enable him to succeed in the task ahead of him.
The Chairman also visited the Primary Healthcare Clinic of Sambak where he expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of the Clinic and pledged his readiness to construct a befitting one for the community.
The Director of Water and Sanitation of the Council, Samson Dung commended the Chairman for taking his time to monitor the month of August sanitation exercise and assured him of total support and cooperation.
Some residents in the area, Scopy Irmiya, Amos Gyang, and Bezem Dalyop commended the Governor for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the State and pledged to collaborate with the Council Transition Committee Chairman of the Local Government Council, Sati Shuwa to succeed.
