Retired 80-year-old soldier defiles 11-year-old girl in Plateau

A retired 80-year-old soldier named Peter Ashom has been taken into custody by the Plateau State Police Command for the defilement of an eleven-year-old girl at Gyel in the Jos South local government area of Plateau State.

The 80-year-old man lured the girl into his apartment on the pretext of sending her on an errand every time she goes to sell groundnuts, according to Commissioner of Police Mr. Okoro Julius Alawari, who was speaking with reporters shortly after parading the suspect at the state headquarters of the command.

The girl’s parents filed a complaint with the police, which led to the suspect’s arrest, according to the Commissioner of Police. The suspect had knowledge of the youngster and had threatened to kill her if she told anybody about the incident.

The suspect, who claimed to be a retired soldier, confessed the crime and stated that he was pushed into it by the devil, adding that it was his first time committing such a crime.

“I was the only one at home when the girl entered my room with her sister. I sent the two of them to buy something for me, but it was only the girl who returned to deliver the message. I don’t know what came upon me. I grabbed her and forcefully raped her.

“I have never done anything like this before; this is my first time; it is the devil that pushed me into this. I am appealing to the girl’s parents and the police to have mercy on me. I will not do anything like this again. This is my first time doing something like this,” he pleaded.

However, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Julius Alawari, stated that the case is still under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of due investigation.
