Rainstorms Destroy 50 Houses, Shops in Plateau Communities

Rainstorms destroyed over 50 houses and stores in numerous towns across Plateau State’s Jos South Local Government Area.

Residents reported that the rainstorms, which began Saturday evening, lasted nearly three hours and were followed by a strong gale that blew off the roofs of numerous houses, leaving several people homeless.

According to reports, various structures of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Barracks in Jos, the state capital, were also targeted.

Ropshak Shanlang, a resident of the Gwarandok local government area, told our correspondent in Jos on Sunday that the tragedy had left the bulk of the inhabitants of the affected communities stranded and puzzled.

He said that numerous residences in the LGA’s Anglu Jos and Abattoir districts had been destroyed.

In the words of Ropshak, “residents have suffered greatly as a result of the recent downpour, as the storm has destroyed building roofs.” Hours of high wind preceded the downpour, which left massive devastation in its wake.
