The Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) on Tuesday, August 13, held a one-day impactful dialogue aimed at evaluating its strategic plans as well as planning wider interventions to conflicts within the state.
The event which was held at the Miango Rest Home in Bassa Local Government Area, and led by the Director-General of the Agency, Dr. Julie Sanda, also took into cognisance the five key thematic areas of focus of PPBA which include research partnerships and coordination, natural resource management, peace education, gender and youth development, post-conflict rehabilitation and recovery, as well as resource mobilisation strategy.
A statement from the PPBA stated that the dialogue was part of efforts at repositioning the agency to “enable her respond adequately to the dynamics of the conflict in Plateau State and elsewhere.”
“The Agency in collaboration with some of its partners, carried out an Internal Dialogue and Strategic Review as part of the process of a comprehensive overhaul of “The Road Map to Peace” document,” it said.
“The regime of the 5-year strategic plan which was first developed in 2018 elapsed in 2022 hence the need to review and take stock of the document.
“The exercise which was facilitated by Prof. Victor Adetula x-rayed the plan, introduced innovative ways of interacting with the various thematic areas while making far reaching recommendations that would position PPBA as a global brand and leader in it’s operational environment.
“We are particularly grateful to the Plateau State Government and our partners United States Institute of Peace, USIP, for the collaboration and support.
“We will continue to work until we build a Plateau at Peace with itself and the rest of the world.”
The Plateau Peace Building Agency is the body set up by the state government to coordinate conflict prevention and peacebuilding interventions in the state through collaborative approaches and credible partnership with non-state actors.
The Agency, apart from seeking for the best possible ways to prevent conflicts before it starts, also promotes a culture of peace and harmonious co-existence among the diverse ethnic groups in Plateau State.
It also mitigates against conflict triggers and enablers through constant systematic dialogues with communities.
