Shopping Mall: “Structure Not Collapse, Just Accident On Site” – BAAT Construction Explains To Plateau Residents

BAAT Construction Company has said that four-storey shopping mall under construction in the Terminus area of Jos, Plateau State has not collapse based on speculation over the media, it was an accident on site which is common in most building construction.

The site Engineer, Yasir Adams made this known to Plateau Watch at Fox Hotel Banquet Hall in Jos on Monday, 5th February, 2024.

Engr. Yasir Adams who is the site engineer explained that the part of the ongoing four-storey shopping mall said to be collapsed was the parking lot which the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) has urged them to create.

He stated that the proposed shopping mall was approved by the JMDB on April 4, 2023. Since then, construction has proceeded smoothly. It has reached around 90% complete.

“This incident, which occurred on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the site is common in any building construction. Thus, we are pleading that the JMDB look into the situation and assess the structure’s integrity.”

The Clerk of work of the site gave assurance to the general public that the interest of the company is to ensure that they provide the best possible structure.

He stated that “our facility is taken into consideration, and that safety is very important. We are going to take care of that to make sure that we don’t have any collapses, we don’t have any fire incidents, and things like that. We are engaging in the best practices that are required.”
