Plateau: “Physical Infrastructures Remain Critical to Government” – Dr. Sam Godongs, DG Research

Dr. Samuel Godongs, Plateau State Director General of Research, Documentation, and Planning, disclosed that the current government is dedicated to developing robust infrastructures across the state to solve the state’s infrastructural deficit.

Hon. Godongs made these known at the six-month review of the time is now the administration’s scorecard: A stewardship accountability forum was held at the Plateau Radio Television Cooperation (PRTVC) Rayfield in Jos, Plateau State.

According to Dr. Godongs, the current administration arrived in the state at its lowest ebb, observing dissatisfaction and disrepair, noting that the inauguration of Gov. Caleb Mutfwang provided hope to the citizens of the state by providing purposeful leadership and providing a positive sense of direction.

Dr. Samuel Godongs explained that the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang is focused on building strong infrastructure, promoting economic success for the state by making it easier for enterprises to operate there, and practicing good governance.
“Plateau State has commercially significant mineral deposits that should be exploited,” he asserted.

He went further by saying that the people of the state are pleased with their current leadership and have great expectations.
He praised Governor Mutfwang for not letting political obstacles stop him from giving the people of Plateau State sound and purposeful leadership. He added that the state governor is perceptive and considerate of the problems faced by the populace. He emphasized that the governor will not give up on creating a more united, peaceful, secure, and prosperous state.

Commissioners and heads of different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) delivered the scorecards of their respective MDAs during the time they were in charge.

The Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Davou Gyang Jatau hinted that the State government is introducing surveillance cameras to reduce car theft and other criminal activities. He also disclosed that plans have reached advanced stage for ValueJet to commence Cargo flight in the State as well as the plan by government to reactivate the rail transport and metropolitan bus transit to reduce the adverse impact of the removal of fuel subsidy.

Program Manager of Plateau Agricultural Development Programme, Jilemsam Ishaku in his presentation hinted that the Plateau State Ministry of Agriculture has conducted soil mapping across the State to ensure that the right crops are grown for better yield. He said markets have been identified and secured for the commodities trading by the State. He also said plans have been activated to revamp to make the Panyam Fish Farm operational.

Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Caroline Panglang Dafur commended the State Governor for his zero tolerance for human trafficking and child labour.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti on his own part commended the State Governor for being youth friendly and for giving greater attention to human capital development. He said the State government purchase a 30-seater bus for the Mighty Jets Football Club to provide them with means of transportation which hitherto was absent.

General Manager of the Plateau State Road Maintenance Agency, Engr. Luka Davou reassured the citizens of government commitment to ensure that roads in the State are motorable all year round saying the ongoing rehabilitation of roads is in phases. He said as the first phase is being completed, the Governor has graciously approved the Second phase with a directive that the rehabilitation should be extended beyond Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.

The Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Labour, Mr. Maram Isaac Monday who represented the Head of Service of the State outlined some of the achievements of the present government as it relates to the Civil Service to include the resolution of the indefinite strike actions it met, clearing backlog of salaries, review of minimum pension, approval for the payment of outstanding pensions, gratuities, and death benefits, as well as giving greater attention to the training and retraining of civil servants in the State for optimal performance.
Technical Adviser to the Governor on Partnership and Diaspora, Manji Wilson said the present administration is working assiduously to attract global attention to the state, whose focus is to increase investment, especially Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs). He said the government has plans to assist citizens of the State to gain admission to Universities abroad to study and come back to add value to the state.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Plateau State Chapter, Cmr. Eugene Manji urged the government to involve unions in the implementation of its policy and work toward implementing the white paper on suspended employment in the state.

Secretary of the Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN), Cmr. Nanle Gujor appreciated Gov. Mutfwang for his accessibility and for running an all-inclusive government in the state. He urged the Governor to give greater attention to the security of the lives and property of the citizens, which is its cardinal constitutional responsibility.

Earlier in her welcoming remarks, the Acting General Manager of Plateau Radio Television Corporation, Mrs Kachollom Rita Aba said the achievements of Gov. Mutfwang across the various sectors in the state since he assumed office are commendable. She applauded him for giving priority to the unity, peace, development, and prosperity of the state.
