Plateau Killings: Sheikh Jingir condemns violence, calls for unity, peace

Sheikh Jingir urged both the federal and state governments to take proactive steps at nipping in the bud early warning signals that would lead to crises.

Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, the National Chairman of the Council of Ulama and leader of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), has condemned the recent wave of violent attacks in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State which led to the killing of over 100 people and displaced thousands, calling for peace and unity among all irrespective of ethnic and religious divide.

Sheikh Jingir who made the condemnation during a media chat in Jos on Friday, April 19, 2025, urged both the federal and state governments to take proactive steps at nipping in the bud early warning signals that would lead to crises.

The respected Islamic cleric also condemned the rising cases of “Sara Suka” that has led to killings and injuring of people by the dangerous gangs of youth within Jos metropolis, especially in Jos North Local Government Area.

“I have heard what has happened in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs, and also the activities of Yan Sara Suka in some communities within Jos,” the cleric said.

“I pray that may Allah bring to an end this bad happenings, may we not witness it again,” he prayed.

Speaking on the clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen, Sheik Jingir reminded both farmers and herders of the importance that each has to one another to succeed in either their respective farming or herding businesses, urging them to always embrace the path of peace and amicable resolutions of whatever problems that might arise between them.

“If you are a herder, don’t move your cows to destroy farm produce. If you are a farmer, don’t poison or kill herders’ cows, let us all embrace one another to live in peace,” he urged.

Sheik Jingir also called on governments at all levels and security operatives to always be proactive in averting the occurrence of such situations.

“I am calling on the government to always pay attention to any sign that would lead to this kind of crises.

“There is the need for the government to call for a meeting of stakeholders to discuss those difficult issues that would lead to peaceful coexistence.

“What Allah desires from us, the Muslims and even non Muslims, is to live in peace. Without peaceful coexistence, both the male, female, children, politicians, and traditional rulers, would not positively thrives,” he said.
