Plateau Killings: NSA Nuhu Ribadu visits Jos, vows justice for victims of Bokkos massacres

National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has reiterated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to do everything within its power to end attacks in Plateau State

National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has reiterated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to do everything within its power to end attacks in Plateau State following the gruesome massacre of over 50 people in Bokkos Local Government Area last week.

Ribadu who was in the state on Sunday, April 6, 2025, to communicate with the government and people of Plateau on behalf of the federal government in the aftermath of the recent wave of attacks that left several communities in Bokkos reeling in pain, said President Tinubu has vowed to put all security apparatus in place so as to forestall a reoccurrence of the wanton attacks and killings in any part of the state.

Ribadu’s visit could not have been more timely after the spate of attacks and security lapses witnessed in a space of three days which led to loss of lives and displacement of residents in communities like Ruwi, Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai, all in Bokkos LGA.

While addressing a press conference at the headquarters of the Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) in Jos, Ribadu said Tinubu has made a bold declaration that henceforth, “Enough is enough.”

The NSA also stressed that security agencies have been mobilized to ensure that lasting peace is restored to all troubled areas of Plateau State.

“This incident that we witnessed in the past week and months, hopefully, we will not see it again. And that is why I come with this message,” Ribadu stated.

Speaking further, the NSA expressed regrets and concerns over the resurgence of violence in the state and other parts of the country and called for firm action to be taken by security operatives.

He emphasized that security agencies must do whatever it takes to stop further bloodshed in the state, with the vow:

“We say that enough is enough. It has to stop—whatever it takes,” he stressed.

The NSA however, acknowledged that some miscreants and criminals were taking advantage of community efforts to promote peace, warning that the “little things will spark things that will get out of place.”

Though the NSA recognized the complex nature of the crisis that has continued to rock the state, he insisted that the government is “learning valuable lessons and implementing stronger strategies.”

“But I can assure you, things have improved. And it will even be better as we continue to move across the country and in the Plateau as well,” he stated.

He also emphasized that peace is the foundation for everything else.

“If you do not live in peace, there is no way, no chance anything can work; no progress, no growth, no development, no education, no health, nothing.”

According to Ribadu, the federal government has made significant strides in addressing violent crimes and insurgency.

“Violence and deaths have reduced probably by over 90% in our country compared to recent trends to the situation in 2022 and 2023.”

He further revealed that many criminal elements responsible for unrest across the country have been arrested prosecuted.

“The bad people have been arrested, it’s true. So far, we have arrested and prosecuted over 2000 terrorists and we’ll continue to do more, with many already convicted.”

Ribadu further warned against exaggerated reports on the attacks, saying the figures being shared by the media were not accurate, explaining that investigations were still ongoing, and some victims were still in hospitals, making it hard to confirm exact numbers.

While assuring residents of the affected communities that justice will be served, Ribadu said:

“Those who are found responsible, those who are directly connected, will be prosecuted. Justice will be done. You will see the difference.”

“This is going to be a continuation. We will not relent. We are serious, we are honest about what we are doing. This progress we are making, this continuous improvement will continue. We’ll get to a point where we say, yes, we have crossed—and be grateful to God,” the NSA concluded.
