The PLASIEC mock election was to test the effectiveness and efficiency of the Voter Verification System.
The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), on Saturday, successfully conducted a mock election to test the viability, effectiveness and efficiency of its electoral processes, including the newly introduced PLASIEC Voter Verification System (VVS), ahead of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 9, 2024.
The mock election which was the first of its kind in the history of the commission, took place across the three senatorial districts in the state and was a significant step in ensuring that the forth coming local government elections would be transparent, credible, free and fair.
The mock election took place in the following locations:
Southern Zone:
Wase Local Government: Danbiram Ward, Wase Primary School Polling Unit
Shendam Local Government: Pangwasa Ward, Naburuk Polling Unit
Central Zone:
Pankshin Local Government: Dokpai Ward, Ngolong Ban Polling Unit
Mangu Local Government: Ampang West Ward, Pushik I Polling Unit
Northern Zone:
Riyom Local Government: Shonong Ward, LWA Primary School Polling Unit
Jos North Local Government:
Angwan Rogo/Rimi Ward, Ungwan Rogo Primary School Polling Unit
This first-of-its-kind exercise was deemed a resounding success, as the turnout of electorates was notable, with many voters taking the opportunity to witness and participate in the voting process ahead of the official election day.
The mock election followed the standard electoral procedure, involving the deployment of staff and materials, setup of polling units, queuing, checking voter registers, voter verification through the VVS, and casting votes.
PLASIEC’s Voter Verification System was put to the test, and its performance during the mock election was commendable. The system proved reliable in verifying voters’ identities, ensuring a smooth process without significant delays.
The positive feedback from both officials and voters highlighted the preparedness of the commission to conduct a credible election.
As the official election day approaches, PLASIEC’s efforts to refine and improve its processes, including the introduction of new technologies like the VVS, reflect its commitment to delivering a transparent and credible electoral process for the people of Plateau State.
