The Nigeria National Petroleum Company, Ltd., has dismissed rumors that it intends to relocate its headquarters from Abuja to Lagos.
On Friday, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer, GCEO, NNPC, denied the acquisition of OVH Energy by NNPCL during the resumed investigation hearing of the ad hoc committee.
Mr Kyari stated that, contrary to the petitioners’ request, the firm had no plans to relocate its headquarters to Lagos, notwithstanding its current position as a private corporation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
He said that the implication was not unrelated to the fact that 70% of its activities were in Lagos, and that shifting the headquarters would entail more costs for the corporation.
He stated that the NNPC Ltd. has integrated its activities and relocated the necessary personnel.
According to him, the registered headquarters of NNPC Ltd. are in Abuja, and the presence of the GCEO with the operational team does not imply that the company has relocated to Lagos.
According to him, individuals making the charge are doing so because they do not want to transfer; this is a global challenge for merger and acquisition. We have given them the option of resigning.
“The company cannot keep them in places where they are not needed; this is what the petitions are all about.”
He stated that the dominant culture must be allowed to take over in every merger and acquisition, such as service, and that this is precisely what the NNPC Ltd was doing.
“We are minimizing the impact of the merger and acquisition because we have to make the business happen.”
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that it has no negative impact and that it adds value,” he added.
