PEPSA Partner With JMDB To Decongest Jos City Center In Plateau

In furtherance of Executive Order 003 enforcement, the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency-PEPSA and the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) conducted operations on Murtala Mohammed Way, Ahmadu Bello Way, parts of Rwang Pam Street (commonly known as the Terminus Area) and Beach Road to remove wares obstructing traffic flow, blocking of access to some buildings and shops and contributing to congestion in the city center.

During this initiative, the Commissioner for Information and Communication Hon. Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Davou jatau, the Director General of PEPSA, Mr Samuel Nathaniel Dapiya, the General Manager of JMDB, Arc. Hart Bankat, and General Manager, Plateau Express Services Ltd, Mr Samuel Jok Gwott alongside their respective staff, and the securities were on-site to oversee and participate in the clearance efforts. It is noteworthy that His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang signed this order before March 19th, 2024. Since then, the Plateau State Ministry of Information and Communication, Plateau State has actively engaged residents and businesses to raise awareness about this law and the government’s commitment to reducing congestion in the city, with full enforcement commencing on the 19th.

Since the start of this endeavor, particularly today, we have garnered favorable feedback about the initiative from shop owners and other traders whose spaces were blocked by individuals occupying parking areas to showcase their products. Additionally, road users have expressed relief regarding this initiative. We are committed to making Plateau state beautiful and safe, and we will enforce adherence to the law to ensure this.

This operation will extend to Gada Biu, Farin Gada, and Bukuru in the coming days. Additionally, the public will recall that the debris at the Jos Main Market site has been removed, and non-shop-owning traders are encouraged to utilize the space temporarily for displaying their goods, as the government continues to pursue a sustainable long-term solution.

We extend our appreciation to the security forces, media outlets, trade unions, and the dedicated staff of PEPSA, JMDB, and Plateau Express Services Ltd for their outstanding contributions to this endeavor.

To the business community of Plateau, we sincerely thank you for your cooperation and support.
