Mr. Samuel Dapiya, Director General of Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), was featured on PRTVC’s “Good Morning Plateau” programme hosted by Pam Doyle. He provided insights into the agency’s recent activities and future plans, engaging with citizens’ questions and suggestions aimed at enhancing the state’s cleanliness.
During the radio programme, Mr. Dapiya underscored the importance of establishing a clean and safe environment, highlighting PEPSA’s proactive approach under His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s leadership. He outlined the agency’s multifaceted role, encompassing environmental protection, land recovery from mining activities, afforestation, and recycling efforts aimed at bolstering government revenue.
Mr. Dapiya detailed PEPSA’s recent initiatives, including a walk from the old airport to Terminus to clear waste and dumpsites along the route, contributing to a cleaner environment. The agency also conducted waste evacuation and fumigation at the Jos Terminus to prepare the area for traders, aligning with the government’s vision of fostering prosperity in Plateau State.
Additionally, he emphasized the revenue generating potential of the agency through initiatives such as of selling waste as manure and reaffirmed PEPSA’s dedication to ensuring the safety and cleanliness of Plateau State.
During the programme, the Director General discussed the agency’s visits to various dumpsites across the state to assess the situation and plan appropriate interventions.
The programme also delved into the proactive measures taken by the Plateau State Government through; the Ministry of Justice, Jos Metropolitan Development Board and PEPSA to address issues such as unregulated construction and traffic congestion through the enforcement of Executive Order 003, Signed by His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State.
Mr. Dapiya highlighted the rationale behind the order and its significance in maintaining order, preserving the environment, and promoting sustainable urban development.
Furthermore, he provided updates on PEPSA’s visit to His Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos, where they sought royal blessings and support for the campaign against indiscriminate waste dumping.
