Plateau State youth activist Davidson Malison had written an open letter to new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs

DEAR HON MINISTER OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND POVERTY REDUCTION, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda

1. Congratulations once again on your appointment and inauguration as the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

2. This is indeed a great plus for Plateau and a balance of equity in terms of sharing National Assignments.

3. This appointment is befitting because of your vast knowledge in tech and data collection and analysis.

4. The Ministry is undoubtedly one of the best in terms of capacity, programs and policies.

5. The Ministry’s mandate is the coordination of humanitarian responses to disasters and conflicts, develops policies for poverty reduction, and provides support for vulnerable populations.

6. Some key programs under the ministry are ;
a. National Social Investment Programme (NSIP)
– Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT)

– N-Power
– Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP)
b. National Humanitarian Response Plan
c. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
d. Refugee and Migrant Support
e. Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Support

7. Again,we cannot out rule the complications, complexities and controversies of the ministry in terms of corruption, misappropriation and other illegal practices.

8. Sadiya Faruk is under EFCC investigation of misappropriation and embezzlement of funds while serving as the ministry Head.

9. Suspended Betta Edu is under EFCC/ICPC investigation over alleged N5bn fraud.

10. Other Heads of MDGs under it have also been accused of corruption and misappropriation.

11. For such a noble portfolio to be given to you means two things.
a. That you are the best man fit for the job .
b. A test to measure your capacity, competence and integrity.

12. This position will have you rewrite the history of the ministry by proving that it can be managed without any form of pointing of accused fingers in terms of corruption if you are committed and avoid distraction and temptation to enrich yourself.

13. When you do well you will not only have written your name in gold, but place your family and the entire state of Plateau on the map of greatness and excellence.

14. An opportunity to see to the poverty reduction of Plateau and Nigeria as a whole by removing it from being the POVERTY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.

15. Plateau State should be topmost and prioritized because of the humanitarian challenges the state had faced… So many villages have been annexed that needs to be revived… So many IDPs needs care and empowerment. Rebuilding of the sacked communities.

16. Human Capital Development if given priority can help reduce the number of unemployed youths in Nigeria.

17. Digital Transformation and standard data collection , analysis and record keeping can help reduce the complexity of challenges in the country.

18. Take it or leave it, the expectations of Nigerians on you are high therefore, the need for putting your absolute best in order to meet up the maximum you can offer.

19. The saying that goes, the end of a matter is precious than the beginning should be taken to cognizance while we pray and trust that you will start and finish well.

20. Promote accountability, transparency and ensure judicious utilization of funds as doing this will make you excell.

May God see you through.
