NOA kicks off nationwide sensitization on National Anthem, National Values Charter

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has kicked off a nationwide sensitization on the new National Anthem and National Values Charter with the aim of promoting national identity and values that unite Nigerians.

At a press conference to flag off the campaign held at the Federal Secretariat in Jos, Plateau State, the State Director of NOA, Mrs. Kaneng T-Pam Hworo, emphasized the campaign’s goal the importance strengthening national unity and reinforce shared values among Nigerians.

In her address, the Director harped on the significance of Nigeria’s National Anthem which she said is not just a song but “a powerful expression of our collective aspirations, it serves as a reminder of the struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs that have defined our nation’s journey.”

“The Anthem is not merely a song; it is a rallying cry that encapsulates our hopes for unity, peace, and progress,” Hworo said.

Continuing, she noted that “in a world increasingly divided by differennyces, our National Anthem calls us to rise above these divisions and work toward a common goal.

‘It inspires us to be responsible citizens, reminding us of the shared destiny we have as Nigerians. By understanding and embracing the essence of our anthem, we reinforce our commitment to the values it represents.”

She further highlighted the anthem’s role in reminding Nigerians of the sacrifices that have shaped the nation, describing it as a powerful symbol that inspires citizens to work toward a common goal.

“Alongside the anthem, the National Values Charter outlines the ethical principles essential to a cohesive and prosperous society. The charter promotes values like integrity, accountability, respect for human rights, and unity.

“This is a call to action for all Nigerians to reflect on their behavior and to contribute positively to their communities,” Hworo stated.

She emphasized that National Values Charter is built on two core commitments; the Nigerian Promise which outlines government responsibilities to citizens which includes equality, peace, and meritocracy; while the Citizens’ Code which entails the core commitments of Nigerians, citizens are encourage to uphold discipline, duty of care, tolerance leadership, accountability, environmental awareness and the resilience they are known for.

“The National Values Charter is document that outlines the ethical principles we must uphold as a society. It serves as a framework for our behavior, guiding us in our interactions with one another and with our nation.

“The Charter emphasizes values such as integrity, accountability, respect for human rights, and national unity—principles that are essential for building a prosperous and equitable society.

“The National Values Charter is not just a set of guidelines; it is a call to action for all Nigerians. It encourages us to reflect on our actions and consider how we can contribute positively to our communities. By aligning our behaviors with these values, we create an environment where everyone can thrive.

“This campaign aims to promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of these vital elements of our national identity.

‘The National Value Charter has 7 for 7 reciprocal commitments between the country and the citizens, these are the Nigerian Promise from the government encompassing equality, democracy, entrepreneurship and employment, peace and security inclusivity, freedom and justice, and meritocracy.

“To enhance these commitments, the NOA 7 institutionalization policies include the nationalization of cartoon animation, citizenship duties, citizen brigade, global reputation management campaign, orientation program for appointed and elected government officials Incorporation of value orientation as part of NYSC and ITF, reintroduction and promotion of national symbols Implementation.”

As part of the strategies to achieve the lofty plans of the agency, Hworo said the NOA will employ a multi-faceted approach to raise awareness of both the National Anthem and the National Values Charter.

“We will utilize various media platforms—television, radio, social media, and print—to disseminate information about the campaign; engaging storytelling, testimonials, and visuals will highlight the significance of the National Anthem and the values we hold dear.

“We will partner with civil society organizations, local governments, and educational institutions to amplify our efforts. By working together, we can reach a broader audience and create a more significant impact.

“We will organize community events such as road shows, school visitations, advocacy visits to traditional rulers, religious bodies, CBOs CSOs and town-hall meetings where the National Anthem can be performed, and discussions on the National Values Charter can take place.

“These events will foster a sense of belonging and community spirit. As we embark on this vital campaign, I urge every Nigerian to participate actively.

“Let us come together to celebrate our National Anthem and uphold the values that define us as a nation. I encourage schools to integrate the National Anthem into their daily lives and for community leaders to facilitate discussions around the National Values Charter.

“In this journey, we must remember that the change we seek begins with each of us. It is our responsibility to model the values we wish to see in our society. Together, we can build a Nigeria that embodies the principles of integrity, respect, and unity,” she added.
