NADCEL 2024: Nigerian Army celebrates 161 years of existence in Jos  

It was a gathering of the “who is who” in the Nigerian military architecture when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, hosted the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024 lecture at the Crispan Hotel and Suites in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday, July 4th.

The epoch event which was to
commemorate 161 years anniversary of the existence of the Nigerian Army, was preceded by free medical services rendered by the Army to various communities in Plateau State by Nigeria Army on Wednesday, 3rd July, as part of the activities to mark the 2024 Army Day Celebration.

In the NADCEL 2024 lecture titled: “Combating Complex Conflicts in Nigeria: Challenges and Strategies,” the COAS, in his address, outlined the various strategies to combat complex conflicts bedevilling the country.

Lagbaja also emphasized the need for the Nigerian Army to “continually review and adapt its strategies to combat the complex and ever-changing security challenges facing the country.”

The COAS went on to highlight the Army’s experiences in counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, and peace support operations since 2013.

Gen. Lagbaja, however, acknowledged what he called the Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA) of Nigeria’s security environment and the need for innovative strategies to counter emerging threats.

According to Gen. Lagbaja, the lecture was aimed to foster a productive discussion and yield workable strategies for the Nigerian Army to better manage the complex security challenges facing the nation, adding that the Nigerian Army is ranked very high in Global Firepower Index of 2024.

The NADCEL 2024 which had former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase as one of the keynote speakers, also featured an award ceremony for the Chief of Army Staff’s Literary Competition, with the of promoting education and intellectual development among youths as well as a themed exhibition showcasing the Nigerian Army’s rich history was also on display.

General Lagbaja expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic guidance and support.
