‘Mutfwang betrayed Plateau people, traded faith-based leadership for his political survival’ – Dalung

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung, has accused Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, of betraying the people of the state, especially those who stood by him through thick and thin by defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Dalung, who criticized Mutfwang’s defection and the reasons the governor gave, which he said were to align the state with the center for the benefit of the people, said Mutfwang not only betrayed the people but also abandoned his faith-based leadership in favor of his political survival ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dalung who made the allegations in a statement posted on his social media platforms on Wednesday, added that Mutfwang’s recent political moves suggest a shift from the values and principles that defined his campaign, which he said were rooted in faith, grassroots connections, and public trust.

“Governor Caleb Mutfwang has abandoned the living God to seek power from the miracle in Lagos,” Dalung said in the statement.

“He has betrayed the people who stood by him through thick and thin, those who believed in him and his faith-based politics; he abandoned them in pursuit of his political safety within the APC.”

The Social Democratic Party, SDP chieftain further argued that the move from Mutfwang is driven by self-preservation rather than the collective interest of Plateau State residents, even though he (Mutfwang) had previously benefited from strong local support built on shared beliefs and community engagement.

“Such political realignments undermine the trust of the electorate, especially in Plateau State, where voters are traditionally conservative and loyal to established political values.

“The ripple effect of such defections, will definitely leave grassroots supporters disconnected from leadership decisions.

“Prioritising your political survival over service to the people could provoke voter anger and trigger a political backlash in the 2027 elections.

“Leadership is about service and accountability. Departing from these values for convenience is a betrayal of both God and the people,” Dalung stated.
