The Executive Chairman of Mangu local government council, Hon. Amb. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers to farmers in the local government area at a subsidized rate.
During the flag-off, Mwolpun said this initiative aims to boost Agricultural productivity and food security in Mangu, known for its rich agricultural heritage.
In a statement on Saturday issued by his Director of Press and Publicity, Jeremiah Dakahap, Mwolpun revealed that the local government procured 6,000 bags of 50kg fertilizer at cost of N40,000 but will be sold to farmers at N20,000 per bag.
Mwolpun added that 30 bags will be given free to people living with disabilities, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and support.
The Chairman called on the people of Mangu to pray for lasting peace, enabling farmers to work without fear.
He emphasized that the administration is following the footsteps of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, whose administration prioritizes agriculture to make the land green and prosperous.
In his remarks, the Deputy Chairman, who is also the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Hon. Nuhu Yakwen, apologized for the late commencement, citing the recent crisis that befell the local government.
He expressed delight in seeing the program take off and urged farmers to take advantage of the subsidized fertilizer.
Yakwen noted the program will benefit many farmers, providing access to high-quality fertilizers at a reduced cost.
The District Head of Mangu, Daa Moses Dawop, during the vote of thanks, appreciated the Mwolpun administration for supporting farmers, especially the vulnerable and disabled, and prayed for peace and success.
