The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) Women Wing, Na Grace Gora, has commended the Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Council, Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, for the efforts his administration has taken in tackling security challenges in the council, leading to a significant improvement in peace and stability in the local government.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press to the Chairman, Jerry Dakahap, the praise came from Na Gora came when the women wing of the MDA observed the International Women’s Day celebration at the Mangu Mini Stadium on Thursday which was held in collaboration with the Gender Commission, Women Mediators and other women groups gathered under the theme “Accelerate Action.”
“Mrs. Gora commended Hon. Mwolpun for his collaborative efforts with the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang,” the statement said.
“She also applauded the state’s appointments to local government, which have provided opportunities for women to participate in governance.
“However, Mrs. Gora expressed her desire for more women to be considered for leadership roles, echoing the iconic phrase “please, sir, I want some more, like Oliver Twist.”
“Gora said the women gathered in their white dresses to appreciate God Almighty for the relative peace that has returned to the land.
“Two years back we wore black because our husbands and children were killed, our houses were burnt, but to God’s glory, when governor Mutfwang came in as governor, he worked tirelessly to ensure peace returns to the land,” she said.
“Mrs. Nanbyen Emmanuel Mwolpun, wife of the Executive Chairman, who represented her husband, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the women for their unwavering support and prayers for the state and local government.
“Mrs Mwolpun acknowledged the vital role women play as the backbone of the society and pledged to support their causes whenever needed.
“Hon. Barr. Olivia Dazyem, Chairperson, Gender and Equal Rights Commission who was the guest speaker at the occasion, spoke on “The Role of Women in curbing instances of Child Trafficking in Plateau State.”
“She urged the women to take a stand against child trafficking and labour, emphasizing their responsibility as mothers to protect their children from deceitful individuals promising employment opportunities.
“Dr. Obadiah Dalong, representative of the President, Mwaghavul Development Association, congratulated the women for observing the 2025 International Women’s day, urging them to continue praying for their husbands and the peace of the land.”
The event featured a march pass by the women in their white dresses to the Mishkaham Mwaghavul’s palace, special prayer session for governor Mutfwang, Emmanuel Mwolpun and the entire land, songs of praise and a birthday celebration for Dr. Mrs Zipporah Duguryil, State Secretary of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) who coincidentally marked her birthday.
