Mangu LG Chairman, Hon. Mwolpun condemns attack on innocent travellers in Mangun

The incident, which took place on the 20th of June, 2025, at about 6pm, resulted in the loss of 12 lives, including women and children

The Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb) Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, is deeply saddened by the tragic incident mob action that happened in Mangun, Mangu Local Government, by yet to be identified mob, on travelers heading to a wedding in Quanpan Local Government from Zaria in Kaduna State.

The incident, which took place on the 20th of June, 2025, at about 6pm, resulted in the loss of 12 lives, including women and children, has left the government and community in shock and sorrow.

In a statement issued on his behalf by the Director of Press and Publicity (DOPP), Jeremiah Dakahap, the Chairman expressed his heartfelt sadness and disappointment over the incident.

He extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, Zaria and Kaduna State Government, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those affected.

“Even though Mangun community is one of the areas in Mangu that has faced ceaseless attacks by bandits in recent times, and the community has been living in tension for a while, the attack on these travelers was uncalled for, and there’s no justification for it.” Mwolpun said.

The Chairman noted that it’s a tragedy that could have been avoided, adding that every life is precious, and violence only leads to more suffering.

He also prayed that they accept this tragic incident with courage and faith, and that the memories of the victims will be cherished and honored.

The Chairman, therefore, called on the people to remain calm and peaceful, even in this challenging moment, not to take the law into their own hands, but rather to allow the relevant authorities to handle the situation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

By doing so, he said, the community can avoid further violence and work towards healing and recovery.

Furthermore, Hon. Mwolpun expresses his deepest appreciation to His Excellency, the Governor of Plateau State, for his swift response and concern over the incident.

He then commends the Governor’s leadership and commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Plateau State and beyond.

The Chairman used the opportunity to call on all stakeholders to work together to create a safe and secure environment where citizens can live without fear of violence or attack.

He stated that his government remains committed to supporting the victims and their families, ensuring that justice is served in this tragic incident.
