Mangu LG Chairman embarks on collaborative efforts to achieve peace, security

Mwolpun has assured of his administration's readiness to partner with all security agencies to bring a lasting solution to the killings bedevilling the local government.

The Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, has assured of his administration’s readiness to partner with all security agencies to bring a lasting solution to the killings bedevilling the local government.

Represented by the deputy Chairman, Hon. Nuhu Yakwen, during a stakeholders security meeting convened by the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, at the council chamber in Mangu, Mwolpun said his administration is ready to provide useful information and the logistics needed to achieve the needed peace.

Mwolpun appreciated His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau State, for his commitment to addressing the security challenges facing the state.

He commended the governor’s leadership and vision in tackling insecurity, which has given the people of Mangu hope for a better future.

The Chairman stated that there will be more engagements with stakeholders to proffer solutions to the crisis on ground.

He quoted Robert S. McNamara, a former President of the World Bank, who said, “Security is development, and development is security,” which implies that without peace, they cannot bring development to the people.

Mwolpun commended the commissioner of police for organising the engagement with security agencies and stakeholders, adding that it is timely as the past week has been a dark period for the local government as quite a number of lives were lost.

He further enjoined all the security operatives to put their heads together to ensure peace is restored in the local government as that is their sole responsibility.

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina expressed bitterness over the recent killings in Mangu and assured that his visit aims to collectively join hands to see to the end of this menace.

Adesina applauded the local government authority, traditional rulers and the community members for the intervention, cooperation and assistance given to the securities operatives, adding that he is impressed with such act.

Also speaking, Chief of Staff to STF Commander, Bri. Gen. M. O. Agi said he is pained over the recent occurrence in Mangu. He emphasized that people should raise alarm when ever new faces are seen in the community.

Agi stressed that anyone seen carrying arms and is not a security personnel, is a criminal and should be gunned down.

Chairman of the Mangu Traditional Council, the Mishkahavul, Daa John Putmang, called on the people of Mangu to unite against the common enemy and work towards achieving peace and stability in the local government.

“I urge our security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to protect our communities,” Daa John Putmang said.

“As the custodians of law and order, it is your sacred duty to ensure that our people can live without fear of attack or harassment. I implore you to leave no stone unturned in your pursuit of peace and justice in our land.”

The traditional ruler also appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting the lives and properties of the people, saying that the recent attacks have caused immense pain to the affected communities.

Present at the meeting were representatives from all security agencies, the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Traditional Rulers, Mangu South Liaison officer, Leader of the Legislative Arm and all Councillors, Council Secretary and other Appointees, as well as representatives from CAN, JNI, Miyetti Allah, MDA, PYC, among others.
