Kano man divorces wife for attending APC meeting

Abdulkadir took the action after several warnings to the wife to cut ties with the ruling party

An aggrieved man in Kano State identified as Lawal Abdulkadir has reportedly divorced his wife, Zainab Ismail Tofa, after she publicly showed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) by attending a meeting held by the party.

According to the report, Abdulkadir took the action after several warnings to the wife to cut ties with the ruling party which he blames for the unbearable hardship, inflation, poverty, hunger and the escalating high cost of living in the country.

Abdulkadir is also said to hold the APC responsible for the incessant terrorists and bandits attacks and kidnappings of innocent citizens in the country, especially in the northern regions and had threatened Zainab on several occasions that he would divorce her if she refuses to cut ties with the party.

Angered by Zainab’s flouting of his orders by attending the party’s meeting, Abdulkadir reportedly served her a divorce letter according to Islamic laws.

The letter written in Hausa language reads:

“I, Lawal Abdulkadir, has ended my marriage with my wife, Zainab Ismail Tofa, for attending APC meeting.

“I have divorced her three times and nothing will make me to forgive her.”

In Islamic religious laws, a marriage can be terminated verbally or in writing and a three time pronouncement means the marriage is annulled forever and nothing can bring the couple back together.
