JNI condemns brutal killing of wedding travelers in Mangu, appeal for calm

The bus conveying 28 muslim passengers, was ambushed by youths from Mangun village, Mangu Local Government Area.

The Plateau State chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), has strongly voiced its condemnation over the brutal attack and gruesome killing of travellers who missed their way to a wedding ceremony in Quan Pa’an local government area of Plateau State on Friday by a mob in Mangun District of Mangu local government area.

The JNI, in a message issued by the State Secretary, Salim Musa Umar, expressed its shock at the barbaric and dastardly act and called on the State government and relevant security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and punish them accordingly.

“JNI Plateau State chapter, under the leadership of his Royal Highness, the Emir of Wase, condemns the recent attack on Muslim passengers traveling from Zaria to Qua’an-Pan in Plateau State to attend a wedding ceremony,” the statement said.

“The bus conveying 28 muslim passengers, was ambushed by youths from Mangun village, Mangu Local Government Area.

“The attack resulted in the brutal murder of eight innocent persons, one person is critically injured, another six sustaining various injuries. Four others are still missing. The attackers also set the vehicle ablaze, leaving behind gory sight.

“While condemning this dastardly act, it has become very necessary to call on the Muslim Ummah to remain calm and allow the government and relevant security agencies to handle the situation as best as they can.

“We urge the government to:

1. Take immediate responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of travelers in the state.

2. The security agencies should hasten to fish out the perpetrators of this barbaric act and bring them to justice.

3. Government should pay compensation to the victims families.

“We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and the survivors of this attack. We urge muslims to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while also demanding justice to the victims,” the JNI stated.

We assure the muslim ummah that we will closely monitor events as they unfold while praying for lasting peace on our dear Plateau State.
