In light of recent judicial rulings in the state of Plateau, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), an umbrella organization of the Muslim Ummah, has urged residents to maintain their composure.
Alhaji Mohammadu Haruna, the Emir of Wase and Chairman of JNI in Plateau, stated in a statement that the appeal had grown urgent due to the apparent tension in the state.
According to Haruna, JNI was made aware that the decisions made by the elections tribunal had unnecessarily heated up the political climate on the Plateau.
If someone is not pleased with the decision of the elections tribunal, they have the legal right to appeal.
“All aggrieved parties are encouraged to file their appeal as provided by law.
“The processes of seeking redress are well articulated by the constitution from the tribunal to the appeal and supreme courts, where necessary.
“There is no need to overheat the polity thereby increasing the risk of throwing the state into unnecessary confusion.
“This appeal becomes necessary in view of the anticipated verdict on the governorship election coming up soon,” he added.
The JNI chairman also urged religious authorities to urge their followers to display the greatest amount of restraint in light of the escalating tension.
