Ibrahim Yusuf Dembo, the Director of Media and Publicity to the Executive Chairman, Kanam LGC, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, takes a deep dive into the wonderful transformation of Gum-Gagdi town in just 100 days of the transformational leadership of the workaholic Chairman as well as the influence of the Barr. Caleb Mutfwang’s “Time is Now” administration in the council.
Excepts:
Kanam is a Local Government Area in the Nigerian state of Plateau. Its headquarters is located in Dengi. It has an area of 2,600 km2 and, as of the 2006 census, a population of 165, 898.
To set the record straight and identify the village that will be the focus of this discussion, I would like to introduce Gum-Gagdi community, which is located within the Kanam district.
Although many people are familiar with the name Gagdi, the truth about its significance has been selectively shared and restricted by a few individuals for their own selfish political interests.
By being economical with the truth about Gagdi, these individuals have obscured the community’s remarkable development achievements in various areas.
For the benefit of those unaware, “Gagdi” is not a personal name, but rather the name of a community located in the Kanam district.
It is essential to note that using “Gagdi” as part of one’s name requires authorization from the traditional leaders and people of Gum-Gagdi.
According to the 2006 census figures, the population of Gum-Gagdi is approximately 12,878. The community is predominantly inhabited by the Jhar tribe, known for their peaceful nature.
Unlike many other areas, Gum-Gagdi’s residents are not demanding luxurious amenities, but rather, they are yearning for a basic necessity: an accessible road connecting them to Dengi, the Local Government headquarters.
The people of Gagdi lack access to a Primary Health Care Clinic, leaving them without adequate support for their health challenges.
Furthermore, the community’s poor and inaccessible road network exacerbates the situation, making it extremely difficult to transport patients to medical facilities.
In the event of an illness, it can take over four hours to transport an individual from the Gagdi hamlet to Dengi healthcare facility.
Additionally, the economy of Gagdi has suffered significantly, particularly at the market center. The once-thriving marketplace now lies in disrepair, with rusted zinc roofs and crumbling infrastructure, a testament to years of neglect and obsolescence.
Despite its former glory as a bustling hub of commerce, Gagdi’s market has been overlooked by successive governments. In the past, Gagdi was renowned as a major center for trade, but the deterioration of the market and road conditions has rendered it inaccessible, especially during the rainy season.
Governor Mutfwang’s administration is committed to inclusivity, with a developmental agenda that caters to everyone in the state. Notably, his focus is now on the people of Gum-Gagdi in Kanam Local Government Area, who have been neglected by previous administrations and exploited by politicians seeking office.
The Governor’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance is evident in his efforts to rebuild and restore hope for the people of Kanam LGA. He has reaffirmed his commitment to providing quality governance, social justice, and empowerment to the people of Plateau State.
By prioritizing the needs of marginalized communities like Gum-Gagdi by some promise and fail selfish politicians, Governor Mutfwang’s administration is taking a significant step towards addressing the disparities and inequalities that have plagued the Kanam LGA for years.
The people of Gagdi are now experiencing the impact of Governor Mutfwang’s administration, thanks to the efforts of his key representatives, including Chief Ephraim Usman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Plateau State, and Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council.
On October 7, 2024, during his campaign for Kanam Council Chairmanship, Chief Ephraim Usman, the “Fruitful Servant,” generously donated ₦1 million to the Gagdi community. This donation aimed to rehabilitate the long-neglected market, which had been ignored by politicians who made empty promises.
Upon assuming office of Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, a patriotic son of Kanam who earned the love and trust of his people, is known for being a man of his word, always following through on his commitments.
One of the key issues he’s been tackling is the deplorable state of the Primary Health Care Clinic in Gagdi.
The Primary Health Care Clinic in Gagdi has undergone a remarkable transformation, with the contractor working diligently to meet the deadline set by the Council, often laboring for 12 hours a day.
The people of Gagdi are ecstatic about the progress made under Governor Mutfwang’s administration, particularly with the execution of projects initiated by Chief Ephraim Usman.
His efforts have revitalized the Gagdi market square, and the Primary Health Care Clinic by the Executive Chairman Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa is nearing completion.
The road to Gagdi has been a source of endless frustration for the community, plagued by broken promises from politicians who have failed to deliver.
However, with the new administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang in place, there’s renewed optimism that the struggles of the Gagdi people will soon be a thing of the past.
It’s astonishing that a politician would claim the road from Dengi to Gagdi has been completed when, in reality, it remains a major challenge.
This blatant dishonesty is a slap in the face to the people of Gagdi, who deserve transparency and accountability from their leaders.
Governor Mutfwang, known for his commitment to truth and action, must intervene and hold this politician accountable for their deceitful words. The people of Gagdi deserve better, and it’s time for their leaders to deliver on their promises.
Thanks to Governor Mutfwang’s administration, Gagdi has achieved significant milestones in healthcare and economic development, ushering in a new era of progress and prosperity for the community.
