Historic Plateau Unity Christmas Carols kicks off in Jos with calls for peace, reconciliation

The event featured inspiring musical performances from renowned gospel artists and mass choirs representing various denominations.

Jos, the Plateau State capital came alive on Friday, November 29, 2024, as the maiden Plateau State Interdenominational Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival kicked off at the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar in Du, Jos South Local Government Area.

The event which was attended by dignitaries including former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon and former President Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, featured inspiring musical performances from renowned gospel artists and mass choirs representing various denominations.

In his address, Gen. Yakubu Gowon expressed gratitude to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for organizing the event. He emphasized the importance of unity, prayer, and peace, not only for Plateau State but for Nigeria and the world at large.

Gowon also reflected on his experiences as a leader and the need for harmony among people of different faiths, urging Nigerians to embrace peace and reconciliation.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in his remarks, highlighted the significance of unity in fulfilling Plateau State’s destiny as a land of promise and blessings.

He called on citizens to come together under one purpose, emphasizing the role of faith in fostering peace and progress.

The Governor further expressed hope that the festival would become a symbol of unity and a platform to promote Plateau as a beacon of light for the nation.

The event continues over the weekend with more worship sessions and celebrations of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Organized by the Plateau State Government in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the three-day festival begins daily at 3:30 PM, aiming to usher in the Christmas season with joy and reflection.
