Gov Mutwang expresses concern over communal clashes in Langtang North/Mikang LGAs, calls for truce, dialogue

Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has strongly denounced the recent outbreak of inter-communal clashes that has injured people and destroyed property in villages that border Mikang and Langtang North Local Government Areas.

Following the outbreak of violence on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, 2024, Governor Mutfwang expressed his condolences to the victims and criticised the altercations as needless and unacceptable.

He stressed that these kinds of actions are counterproductive to the government’s concerted efforts to promote harmony and peace among people from different racial and religious origins, all working towards the common goal of promoting the development and prosperity of the state.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Mutfwang disclosed that the Governor Expressing his dismay over the conflict, Governor Mutfwang underscored the importance of dialogue as the most civilized and effective means of conflict resolution. He questioned the rationale behind individuals resorting to violence, taking the law into their own hands, and targeting innocent communities with arson.

The governor urged security services to act swiftly and to prosecute offenders and their backers to the fullest extent of the law. In order to stop the situation from getting worse, he also called for quick mobilisation to the impacted districts. In order to promote a peaceful coexistence, Governor Mutfwang also urged important players from the impacted communities, as well as traditional, community, and religious leaders, to start a conversation and strive towards a peaceful settlement of the conflicts.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bringing about enduring peace throughout the state, saying he looks forward to a prosperous, peaceful Plateau where all residents, regardless of religion or ethnicity, support one another in a spirit of fraternity.
