Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has announced the award of contracts for the renovation and upgrading of 82 primary healthcare centers across the 17 local government areas of the state.
The Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, said the move is one of Mutfwang’s “administration’s steadfast commitment to improving the quality of life for Plateau citizens, particularly the vulnerable population, as part of his vision to enhance productivity and drive economic growth.”
“In a strategic effort to revitalize the healthcare system and address pressing challenges faced by the people of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has awarded contracts for the renovation and upgrading of 82 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state,” Bere said in the statement.
“Presenting cheques to the contractors on Wednesday at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Jos, Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s steadfast commitment to improving the quality of life for Plateau citizens, particularly the vulnerable population, as part of his vision to enhance productivity and drive economic growth.
“The Governor disclosed that the initiative is being funded under the IMPACT Project, a comprehensive program designed to create lasting improvements in the state’s healthcare system.
“The project will cover at least four PHCs in each of the 17 Local Government Areas in order to ensure equitable distribution of resources and services.
“The upgrades will include the construction of perimeter fencing, two-bedroom staff quarters, motorized boreholes, and the installation of solar panels to guarantee uninterrupted power supply for effective service delivery.
“In a remark, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, gave the names of the contractors to include Forest Engineering Ltd., MAICAT Nigeria Ltd., HALCYON General Merchant Limited, and Hope River International Limited. He described the initiative as a transformative intervention for Plateau’s healthcare sector.
“In a related development, Governor Mutfwang has welcomed the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiame Diop, on a courtesy visit to the state.
“Speaking during a detailed review session, the Governor expressed delight that Plateau State had hosted the World Bank delegation twice in less than a year, saying this is a testament to the growing partnership between the state and the global financial institution.
“Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of strategic engagements with the World Bank, both locally and internationally, to share the “true Plateau story.”
“He highlighted several impactful projects under discussion, particularly those targeted at rural communities, and commended the World Bank’s commitment to initiatives that foster sustainable development in the state.
“He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to collaborate with the World Bank and other reputable organizations to lift Plateau State out of poverty and drive meaningful progress.
“Dr. Ndiame Diop, in his remarks, praised Governor Mutfwang’s exceptional leadership, describing it as instrumental in strengthening the partnership between Plateau State and the World Bank.
“He expressed admiration for Plateau’s peaceful environment, scenic beauty, and vast tourism potential, and commended the Governor’s proactive approach in fostering a productive relationship with the World Bank.
“Dr. Diop assured the Governor of the World Bank’s commitment to supporting transformative projects that will have enduring impacts on the lives of Plateau citizens.”
