Four persons killed near military checkpoint in Plateau

Four men were killed in Dode village, Mangu Hallei Ward of Mangu Local Council, Plateau State, quite close to a military checkpoint. A witness stated the checkpoint was guarded by stern-looking armed soldiers, but he couldn’t say what caused the four guys to be killed.

Capt. Oya James, the Military Media Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), claimed he would acquire the specifics and come back to The Guardian, but he never did by press time.

According to Guardian, the locals only spotted the dead people while passing by yesterday, and no one had the confidence to ask the military when and how the tragedy occurred.

An army officer who requested anonymity said he had heard a similar claim but had no details. Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Office’s Community Department reported Wednesday that 92-year-old Joseph Gwom, a retired Army Staff Sergeant, is missing.

The elderly man was last seen in Filin Atili, near Dogon Dutse. He lives in Jos North Local Council, behind Chwelnyap Primary School in Nasarawa Gwong. The retired Berom soldier with no tribal insignia walks with crutches.
