Four Killed In Recurrent Attack On Plateau Communities

In what appears to be recurrent attacks on two villages in the Miango region of the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, four people were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen.

According to the national publicity secretary of Irigwe Development Association, Davidson Malison, the assailants launched an attack on Nkienzha community in Miango district of Rigwe Chiefdom in the early hours of Monday where three persons were killed and one severely injured with machete cuts and receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The fourth death was recorded in another attack on Teegbe village on Saturday night while a car ambush occurred on Friday where the vehicle was burnt and one person sustained injuries.

The revival of attacks and killings was characterized as callous and barbaric by the Rigwe nation’s leadership, expressed through the traditional council and development association.

The president of the Irigwe Development Association, Robert Ashi, and the supreme monarch of the Rigwe Chiefdom, Reverend Ronku Aka, are pleading with security services to make sure that those responsible for the horrible crime are found and dealt with appropriately.

Bloodthirsty marauders have been devastating Plateau State lately, killing over 200 people during attacks on Christmas Eve in the local government areas of Barkin Ladi and Bokkos. Numerous homes and farms were set on fire during the nighttime assaults, resulting in numerous casualties.

The attack persisted in the new year, with attackers in Kwahaslalek village, a community in the Mangu Local Government Area, killing about 30 people and setting numerous houses on ablaze in January.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed a curfew on the Local Government Area in response to the incident, which was subsequently removed.
