Dr Elkanah Garang Advocates Support For Education Of Students Internally Displaced By Conflicts In Plateau

Dr Elkanah has advocated for increased support for the education of Internally Displaced Students in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State. This he made known at the conclusion of a commendable initiative he started on 2nd April 2024 and ended May 3rd 2024, during which he provided free intensive extra lessons for students from internally displaced communities in IDP Camps, in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State.

The program became expedient by the need to groom this category of students in preparation for the forthcoming West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations 2024.

This initiative targeted less privileged students, particularly students from communities recently affected by attacks by yet to be identified gunmen are not further left disadvantaged by the insecurity experienced in parts of the local government. It was intended to provide them with the requisite skills and knowledge to sit for the SSCE Examination.

Dr Elkanah’s advocacy message was echoed by one of the teaching staff of the initiative Mr Matthew Barde who in a valedictory message emphasized the significance of the intervention to students displaced by conflict in the area. He thanked Dr Elkanah for his intervention and stressed that it serves as a clarion call to action, urging stakeholders to prioritize the education of IDP students and allocate resources accordingly.

He called on the Plateau State Government to prioritize and extend more support towards the education of these vulnerable students. Dr Elkanah was however saddened by the news that about 40 of these young citizens were not registered for the upcoming WAEC examination due to insecurity which is already disruptive of their education pursuit.

Dr Elkanah Garang has been in the forefront of Philanthropic Interventions in Hinterland Communities across Nigeria. His interventions have touched on Infrastructure, Academic Interventions for Indigent Students in Tertiary Institutions, Socio-Economic Interventions and empowerment of women.
