In a tragic turn of events, Muhammad Adamu, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday evening. The attack occurred at Adamu’s residence shortly after he had broken his Ramadan fast, sending shockwaves through the community.
Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the State Chairman of MACBAN, confirmed the incident to journalists, expressing deep sorrow and outrage. He urged security agencies to swiftly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. “This is an unfortunate situation. We call on security agencies to investigate and fish out those behind this heinous act so that they will face the full wrath of the law,” Babayo stated.
Alhaji Danjuma Ibrahim, a youth leader in the community, also confirmed the attack, revealing that Adamu’s body had been taken to Barkin Ladi General Hospital and is expected to be buried on Thursday. Danjuma lamented that this was the third time Adamu had been targeted by gunmen, with the assailants finally succeeding in their latest attempt.
“The gunmen attacked him and shot him multiple times. There are bullet wounds on his body. After they shot him, they fled the area,” Danjuma recounted. He added that security personnel, including police and soldiers, had responded promptly and were present at the hospital when Adamu was brought in.
Danjuma praised Adamu’s contributions to peacebuilding in Barkin Ladi, describing his death as a significant loss. “His demise will continue to linger in our memory because of his significance in sustaining peace in the community,” he said.
However, when contacted, DSP Alfred Alabo, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, claimed he was unaware of the incident. “I’m not aware of the incident because we have our channel of communication, so honestly, I’m not aware yet,” he said.
The killing of Adamu has left the community in mourning, with many calling for justice and an end to the recurring violence in the region.
