Nigeria Voters Watch and Diplomacy (NVW) has accused the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ambassador Amina Mohammed, of propagating misleading narratives about genocide and ethnic cleansing in Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Benue.
NVWD further claimed that Mohammed was not alone in his attempt to suppress the true story of what was going on on these sites.
In a statement issued by its chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Isaac Osagie, lamented that the Nigerian state had failed to effectively combat criminal genocide against the peoples of Benue, Plateau, and Southern Kaduna, and demanded that the United Nations conduct an independent investigation into genocide issues in the areas.
“We have watched with dismay the half-truths and unfounded narratives being churned out by the UN and some global platforms,” the organization said in a statement distributed to journalists yesterday.
“The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ambassador Amina Mohammed, and her acolytes are promoting these false narratives.”
“She has consistently suppressed stories, reports, and countless complaints brought forward by civil society organizations and other stakeholders, and she has consistently dismissed genocide as a farmer-herder crisis.”
“In her ignorance, she believes that the indigenous peoples of these areas are simply opposed to climate change and are intolerant of the Fulani herdsmen.” This is far from the truth, and it is thus a purposeful obscuration of the issues at hand.
“We respectfully request that the United Nations, particularly the Secretary-General, conduct an independent investigation into the situation in Benue, Plateau, and Southern Kaduna,” the organization stated in a statement.
According to the organization, the Federal Government of Nigeria has allowed the state’s security sector to be politicized and biased towards sectional interests.
According to the statement, the Nigerian government has failed to take decisive and proactive action. It has allowed the state’s cohesive apparatus to be politicized and manipulated in favor of sectional interests that promote ethnic and religious hegemony, bigotry, and uncontrolled supremacy.
