Again, gunmen sack Bassa community, kill 25, injure scores (GRAPHIC PICTURES)

The devastating attack took place in the early hours of Monday at about 2:45 a.m. when the heavily armed gunmen in their hundreds, invaded the community and descended on the people, killing both men, women and children.

No less than 25 people were killed and scores of others severely injured following a deadly attack by suspected Fulani militia on Kimakpa Village in Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to eyewitness, the devastating attack took place in the early hours of Monday at about 2:45 a.m. when the heavily armed gunmen in their hundreds, invaded the community and descended on the people, killing both men, women and children.

Residents who managed to survive that carnage by escaping into nearby bushes, narrated that the bandits stormed the village on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically, killing the victims who were caught in the cross fire.

A resident who spoke to journalists on the condition of anonymity, said they were saved from further killings when they alerted security agencies that the attackers stormed the village and began shooting sporadically.

He said that combined troops of the Nigerian Army led by the Sector Commander, the Police, and the Police Mobile Force stationed at Miango responded swiftly to the distress call, engaged the attackers, and repelled the assault.

“Following the gun duel, a search of the area led to the recovery of 25 corpses, while four injured victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention,” a security personnel said.

“The troops have commenced manhunt for the perpetrators, with extensive combing of nearby forests underway. Additional deployments have also been made to the affected area to forestall further attacks,” he added.
