As the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a credible candidate from Pankshin, representing Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam, it is imperative that the Plateau Central zone senatorial seat be allocated to Kanam LGA.
This strategic move would prevent past mistakes and ensure equitable representation.
Historically, the Plateau Central senatorial district has been contentious, with Kanam playing a crucial role in determining the outcome. The district comprises five local government areas: Bokkos, Mangu, Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam.
Allocating the senatorial seat to Kanam would demonstrate the PDP’s commitment to fairness and equity, acknowledging the region’s significant contribution to the party’s success.
This move would boost Kanam’s constituents’ morale, foster unity and cooperation among local government areas, and mark Kanam’s first-ever participation in the National Assembly.
Having a Kanam representative in the National Assembly would ensure their voices are heard and interests represented at the federal level.
The idea of zoning and rotation of political offices is a topic of discussion in Nigeria. However, focusing on Kanam’s potential representation highlights the importance of inclusivity and diversity in Nigeria’s political landscape.
If the party turns a blind eye to this issue and repeats the same mistake by zoning the senatorial seat to either Pankshin, Kanke, or Bokkos, I can confidently predict that the opposition party will likely capitalize on this oversight.
As Albert Einstein aptly put it, “Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.”
It’s crucial for the party to recognize the importance of fairness and equity in representation.
Kanam LGA, being one of the five local government areas in the Plateau Central senatorial district, deserves equal consideration for the senatorial seat.
By zoning the seat to Kanam, the party can demonstrate its commitment to inclusivity and diversity, ultimately strengthening its relationship with the community.
In 2027, allocating the Plateau Central Zone seat ticket to Kanam would be a groundbreaking moment, bringing Kanam into the national spotlight and providing a unique opportunity to contribute to the country’s legislative process.
